BSM and Seven Clean Seas (SCS), an organisation that builds global plastic recovery projects and scalable solutions to combat marine plastic pollution, enter a strategic partnership.
Through this collaboration, and in support of global marine conservation efforts, BSM will contribute annually to the recovery of 25,000 kg of ocean plastic, community education and empowerment, and sector-wide stakeholder engagement focused on reducing marine plastic pollution and driving policy innovation.
Specifically, it is planned to build a classroom in a coastal community school using recycled bricks and roof tiles made from ocean-bound plastic. Furthermore, BSM employees will co-host sustainability education sessions through existing school outreach programmes, engaging directly with students.
In addition, BSM is a founding member of the recently launched industry association for clean seas, entitled Maritime Association for Clean Seas (MACS) and initiated by Seven Clean Seas. MACS aims to unite the maritime industry in tackling ocean plastic pollution at scale. The alliance connects like-minded organisations, enable shared learning, and drive collaborative solutions that reduce waste leakage from vessels and support coastal communities affected by plastic pollution.
Elena Pantazidou, HR Shore Director of BSM says, “At Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, we believe that safeguarding our oceans is not just a responsibility but a commitment to future generations. Joining forces as a founding member of the Maritime Association for Clean Seas reflects our dedication to driving sustainable practices across the maritime industry.”
Established in Singapore in 2018, Seven Clean Seas has already recovered over 6,000,000 kg of plastic from the marine environment as of 1 October 2025. The goal is to reach the 100,000,000 kg mark by 2030, or even better, an ocean without plastic.
